Dredging work, financed by the federal government and costing $15m, meant the removal of 1.6m cubic metres of dredged material from the access channel, turning basin, interior navigational areas and the container and break-bulk berths. Bathymetrical studies will now officially ascertain draught depth.
Meanwhile, the port is also working on new maritime signalling to aid navigation.
