Hurricane season reports

While BOEMRE’s “extreme weather warnings” are primarily aimed at the oil and gas industry, the reports on the 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season have relevance for other infrastructure bodies.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) issues its annual guidance and updated reports at www.gomr.boemre.gov/homepg/whatsnew/hurricane/index.html

BOEMRE director Michael Bromwich explains that the organisation “can help ensure that information about oil and gas operations, as well as about infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico, is shared with the appropriate emergency personnel.”

BOEMRE uses information relayed from the energy sector to work with the US Coast Guard on rescue needs and in establishing priorities and ensuring co-ordination of oil spill response, identifying environmental and man-made assets at risk, and notifying the media and interested public entities about shut-in production and damage to facilities.
