The IMO reiterated its commitment to sustainability at the Expo 2012 World Fair

The Expo 2012 provided a chance to improve global view of the function and value of the world’s oceans and coasts.

This year’s themed expo was called The Living Ocean and Coast: Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities and it was an opportunity for IMO to exhibit its latest work in the area of sustainability.

IMO secretary general Koji Sekimizu participated in the UN pavilion, which brought together a variety of agencies, programmes and international organisations to display shared work towards this cause.

Mr Sekimizu also took part in the Yesou Declaration Forum, the aim of which was to raise awareness of the urgent issues related to the sea and oceans and to promote the need for the combined efforts of the international community.
