Port & harbour dues will be frozen for the second consecutive year, while berthing dues will remain frozen for the fifth year running.
The port’s attitude is that In light of the currect economic crisis, it’s the most logical thing to do for customers.
Ian McQuade, commerical general manager, Port of Portland, said: “As we come to the end of 2012 we feel that it is only right to freeze tariff costs going forward into the new year. In reflection of the recession that we still find ourselves in, hopefully this announcement will please our current and any potential future customers,” he added.
He says that customers are still scrutinising every cost in their supply process – despite what some industries are saying about the green shoots of recovery.
Despite the hard times, the port says it has recently been inundated with enquiries and booking for in-water work within its deep and well sheltered harbour. The port currently has three vessels booked in for in-water work in the coming weeks and has a car carrier, a products tanker and a cargo vessel booked to call at the port before Christmas.
