The funding is part of the FY2013 Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant programmes.
Projects directly related to seaports included in TIGER V awards are:
- Jackson County Port Authority – Port of Pascagoula intermodal improvement for US$14,000,000
- Diamond State Port Corporation – rehabilitation of Wharf Unit 1 (Berths 5/6) for US$10,000,000
- Duluth Seaway Port Authority – Port of Duluth intermodal for US$10,000,000
- Port of Houston Authority – Port of Houston: Bayport Wharf for US$10,000,000
- Maryland Port Administration – Port of Baltimore enhancements for US$10,000,000
- Eastport Port Authority – Eastport breakwater replacement for US$6,000,000
- Port of Oswego – East Terminal intermodal connector for US$1,527,000
- Port of Garibaldi – Port of Garibaldi Wharf revitalisation for US$1,474,761
Speaking of the port’s funding, Adolph Ojard, executive director of Duluth Seaway Port Authority, said: “The award represents a major investment in this region’s multimodal transportation system. We’re rehabbing the platform of what was once a grain elevator…setting the table, so to speak, for future growth and development.”
Other seaport-related infrastructure projects receiving TIGER V grants includeSouth Florida freight and passenger rail enhancement, Delta Frame Bridge, SEPTA-CSX separation project and the Port of Tucson container export rail facility.
