IDENTEC tyre check for Lyttelton

IDENTEC SOLUTIONS and partner Pressure Pro have installed wireless sensor technology at New Zealand’s Lyttelton Port of Christchurch to monitor the port’s straddle carrier tyres.

The tyre management system continuously captures and records real-time tyre data through sensors fitted to the valve stem of each straddle carrier tyre.

The data from the monitors is then integrated with IDENTEC’s Container Terminal Automation System and is displayed on the fuel/tyre dashboard of the Fleet Management software module.

LPC maintenance and engineering staff can then remotely track, manage and analyse the performance of individual tyres and machines.

IDENTEC highlights its ‘limp home’ safety mode where when a low pressure tyre is identified, the software system sends a signal to the straddle carrier to automatically restrict the speed at which the equipment can be driven.

The port previously relied on manual tyre pressure checks and management.
