The terminal has been struggling with truckloads ever since receiving two extra services which increased its volume from 15,000 weekly container lifts up to 22,000.
Because of the heavy increase, APL had to alter its system of storing containers from on-chasses to storage in stacks. This meant that the operator had to impose a trucker appointment system to ensure containers are pre-mounted on a chassis by the time they arrive.
Apparently, this has decreased the transaction time from over 100 to less than 60 minutes, which has helped to clear truck congestion.
POLA is not the only port to struggle with congestion, many have been feeling the impact of ever increasing vessel sizes.
