Tangier Med is the first African port to join the EcoPort group, a network of port professionals committed to sharing views and practices to facilitate the improvement of the sector’s environmental performance.
ESPO, founded in 1993, is the representative body of the port authorities, port associations and port administrations of the seaports of the member states of the European Union and of Norway.
In 2003 the ESPO published an environmental code of practice regulating environmental practices amongst its member port authorities. The code is used in conjunction with the Ports Environmental Review System to develop policy, management and performance standards compliant with the environmental code.
Tangier Med’s accreditation builds on the existing ISO 14001 certification in recognition of the port’s environmental management and acknowledges the voluntary steps the port has made to enable sustainable development, in accordance with international standards.
