Visedo’s hybrid electric system will be used on a Saltech-designed hybrid diesel-electric vessel featuring selective catalytic reduction and diesel particulate filters to further reduce its environmental impact.
Philipp Fedorov, business development manager for Visedo Marine, said: “Visedo’s compact DC grid propulsion system will reduce fuel consumption and emissions, as well as increasing system redundancy and ensuring safer operation.

“Battery-ready DC grid electric propulsion also offers significant possibilities for future upgrades and battery installations.”
The system will provide quieter operation and less maintenance costs for the ferry, which will carry up to 150 passengers through the often icy waters around the islands of the Stockholm archipelago, off the Swedish capital.
The vessel will be built at the Baltic Workboats shipyard in Estonia and is expected to enter service with ferry operator Waxholmsbolaget in summer 2018.
Mr Fedorov added: “Emissions restrictions encourage shipowners to design and order innovative propulsion for new shipbuilding projects. This vessel will be another example of Visedo’s innovative approach to delivering the market’s leading hybrid and fully electric propulsion for the marine industry.”
Asia’s first hybrid electric ferry includes a Visedo system and in April this year Visedo announced it would open a Hong Kong office to help it expand into emerging markets across mainland China, East Asia, South-east Asia and the Pacific.
