Concasa director Francisco Naranjo noted that the aim of the bid is to ensure that existing container traffic remains at the port and attract new traffic, for which an ambitious growth plan had been put forward. One key element of this is to attract to Cadiz various shipping lines wishing to undertake transhipment there.
Unlike the existing technical limitations that are encountered at the box terminal at Reina Sofía Quay, which include draft, rail capacity and stacking yard, the new facility will be equipped with post-panamax gantry cranes and have automated gate access.
Concasa believes that, with these elements in place, throughput can be boosted by 50% in the next few years.
