Focusing on the areas of ‘cruise terminal’, ‘cargo operation’, ‘port environment’ and ‘community outreach’, the action plan covers all seven of TIPC’s international commercial ports (Keelung, Taichung, Kaohsiung, Hualien, Taipei, Suao and Anping) as a single, integrated business cluster and aims to realise a ‘green port cluster’ through devising short, mid and long-term strategies.
TIPC stated as part of the cruise element of the plan it aims to “mitigate environmental impacts caused by cruise, such as waste water and other wastes generated by passengers, at its cruise terminal; and establish tourist centres that comply with Taiwan’s green building standards (EEWH).”
Equipment upgrades
To address cargo operational activity it will seek to reduce air and noise pollution related to cargo operation on both land and water and promote equipment upgrades to more efficient and/or electric models.
The community outreach part of the plan focuses on developing recreational waterfront areas and integrating port development with community development policies.
TIPC also plans to enhance the port environment by aiming for better air, and water quality and more green space; and incorporating sustainability into its environmental, social and business activities.
