The meeting involved discussion of the port workers demands to revise the existing wage structure and other service conditions, where the IPA, according to JOC, said the Indian government was willing to discuss the demands to stop an indefinite strike at the end of May.
“After hearing (IPA) management’s view and assurance, the attitude of the federations for resorting to (a) one-day strike on May 28 has seen diluted and the chairman of the national coordination committee of the federations unilaterally stated that taking into consideration the assurance of the management and appeal to drop the plan for strike, federations are willing to defer the strike, the minutes of the joint meeting stated, according to JOC.
India’s Shipping Secretary is expected to hold talks with labour representatives on 18 June.
