Zulu is set when gale-force winds are possible within 12 hours. As of 9 October, all commercial port operations from Cedar Key to Tarpon Spring have been suspended and commercial and recreational vessel operators are urged to seek safe harbour.
X-ray condition ports and facilities, including Savannah and Charleston, are open to all commercial traffic but all ocean-going commercial vessels and oceangoing barges greater than 500 gross tonnes should make plans for departing the port.
“Maritime and port facilities are reminded to review and update their heavy weather response plans and make any additional preparations needed to adequately prepare in case of a potential impact to the area,” warned USCG in a statement.
The US Department of Homeland Security’s Homeport website showed the Port of Cedar Key as closed and Edgmont Key as open with restrictions.
