Citing unnamed sources, Reuters reports that a complaint from PSA International prompted the probe. PSA claimed that APMT and DP World have hindered the growth of PSA’s terminal by colluding on certain charges they levy at the port.
The complaint hinges on inter-terminal transfers. Freight trains arriving at or leaving the port stop at just one terminal and other operators have to collect or drop-off their containers by truck to transfer to their own terminals. PSA claimed that APMT and DP World set a higher fee on containers that arrived at the PSA terminal.
Preliminary findings from the probe found that APMT and DP World had co-ordinated their efforts to prevent PSA from operating effectively at the Mumbai port, Reuters said, citing two sources with direct knowledge of the case.
APMT, DP World and PSA operate four of the port’s five terminals. The fifth is owned by the government.
