Lieve will present in Session 2 of the Conference which will focus on ‘Building Connectivity & Networks for the Future – Linking Short Sea Shipping to Intermodal Transport Routes’. She will discuss how short sea shipping is sustained at the Port of Zeebrugge by a vast state of the art railway network. Short sea terminals at the port have daily links to the European hinterland – with a strong focus on Italy – through a high frequency of railway connections.
Cargo consolidation through operators at the port is available using intermodal transport links via inland waterway and estuary connections, road, and rail, reducing costs and creating efficiencies.
The Port of Zeebrugge recently announced that it has joined the International Port Community Systems Association (IPCSA). The port is keen to share their expertise on Smart Ports, being a Green Port, and Safety Port projects. “We want to keep up to date on developments in other ports and offer the expertise of Zeebrugge to work on an international system that can benefit all port users,” said Peter Merlevede ICT manager at the Port of Zeebrugge. “We believe in digitalisation and standardisation and want to be an active member of IPCSA – participating in these developments in a community that is broader than Zeebrugge port alone. We know that exchanging ideas and discussing experiences is always valuable for all parties involved.”
