Terminal cleans up with hybrid RTGs

Eco-efficient hybrid RTGs will expand operations and reduce emissions at a US terminal.

Ports America Chesapeake (PAC) has ordered 15 remotely-operated Konecranes RTGs for its Seagirt Marine Terminal at the Port of Baltimore. The RTGs replace older equipment and are an important step in the terminal’s long-term plan to have fully electric operation and zero tailpipe emissions, while maintaining its truck turn times. The equipment will also significantly increase the current RTG container handling capacity, improving operational efficiency.

Konecranes will deliver the new RTGs in three batches starting in Q1 of 2022.

Ports America Chesapeake’s Seagirt Marine Terminal currently handles an annual volume of just over 1m TEUs.
