The Port Authority of Valencia’s (PAV) board of directors selected Baleària’s proposal for the terminal construction and management tender. According to the shipping company’s project proposal, the passenger terminal, to be used for both ferry lines and cruise ships, will operate with zero emissions, and will be committed to the circular economy. 100% of the electrical energy required for the operation of the terminal will be produced at its facilities and will be of renewable origin.
President of the PAV, Aurelio Martínez, emphasised “that the project of the new passenger terminal is committed to all the environmental facets. It is committed to a notable reduction in noise, as all the berthing lines will be technically equipped to provide electrical connections to the ships at berth, thus facilitating the stopping of their engines and emissions when they are visiting València”.
The terminal will recycle 100% of the waste it generates in a biomethane plant that will be built specifically for this purpose; and it will treat the waste from the ships and the building itself to obtain biogas.
Project plans also includes the development of an innovation and eco-efficiency centre and a space for cultural dynamization.
The terminal will occupy approximately 100,000m2 and its concession will be granted for a period of 35 years, extendable to a maximum of 50 years.
