This is according to the Taiwan International Ports Corporation Ltd. (TIPC). Its Taichung Port is the home port for turbine assembly and localized turbine manufacturing and its Taipei Port is the base for manufacturing, storage and transfers of underwater foundations.
“In conjunction with personnel safety trainings, TIPC will provide integrated port services throughout the offshore wind farm lifecycle aiming to build a full-featured wind power operation port cluster like the leading wind power ports of European countries such as Esbjerg Port in Denmark and Lowestoft Port in the UK, in an effort to become the most solid backbone of Taiwan’s offshore wind power industry,” said TIPC.
Taichung Port is the nearest international commercial port to the potential wind farms, with deep navigation channel and wharves and sufficient rear land area.
The infrastructure of Taichung Port can meet the various operational requirements in the transportation and installation of large offshore wind turbine components as well as service crew vessels and O&M vessels, It has designated an industrial park dedicated to the localization of wind turbine components.
Taipei Port’s offshore wind resources are newly developed and located in the South Wharf District. The port mainly serves the offshore wind industry as a manufacturing site for underwater foundation components.
