Competition down the coast

Barcelonas loss of position is the direct result of Valencias own expansion plans, which were partially realised at the end of the 1990s with the opening of the new public container terminal on Principe Felipe quay in the ports southern expansion zone. Operator Maritima Valenciana currently benefits from having 120ha of space to juggle with, while TCB and Tercat combined cannot even muster 100ha, making it significantly more difficult to compete for discretional traffic.
