India earmarks $10bn of investment
Work has already begun on the $24 million third phase programme; phase one cost $30 million and phase two $17 million.
India currently lags behind other regional competitors in that turnaround times for vessels can be 10% higher than those found in either Singapore or Hong Kong. The government predicts that by 2012, total throughput at the nation’s sea ports will total 800 million tonnes, which compares with 430 million tonnes now.
