Next in line in the value stakes was Ports of Auckland with NZ$6.5bn (up 14.6%) and then Port Otago with NZ$3.3bn (up 7.4%).While on the volume side it was Lyttelton Port of Christchurch with 3.6m tonnes (up 16.1%) and then Auckland with 2.2m tonnes (up 12.3%). In terms of import volumes, the petroleumdominated Port of Whangarei continued to lead with 5.7m tonnes (up 1%), with Tauranga moving slightly ahead of Auckland at 3.8m tonnes (up 8.3%).Auckland stayed well ahead in terms of the value of imports at NZ$15.3bn (up 3.8%), followed by Tauranga at NZ$3.9bn (up 9.4%) and Whangarei at NZ$3.7bn (up 30.9%).
TAURANGA MAINTAINS LEADING EXPORT STATUS
Statistics New Zealand has confirmed Port of Tauranga is the countrys leading export port, with a total value of goods annually exported of NZ$7.3bn (up 2.8% for the financial year) and annual volume of goods exported of 6.1m tonnes (down 3.3%).
