TCB loses ZIM and Evergreen to rivals

Barcelona Container Terminal (TCB) has reportedly lost about 20% of its total traffic due to defections to other terminals.

Port Strategy: some services have switched from TCB

In February, Zim, one of its most important transhipment customers, shifted one of its services from Barcelona to the nearby port of Tarragona, where it has a joint-venture at the Contarsa terminal with DP World.

In March, Evergreen moved its traffic from TCB to rival terminal Tercat, which is majority-owned by HPH.

Between them, Zim and Evergreen accounted for 200,000 teu of annual traffic. Zim has, however, signed a contract with X-Press Container Line, which will provide a three times a week feeder service between Barcelona and Tarragona.
