Merseyside secures training funding

Mersey Maritime has been awarded £ 1.75m ($3.4m) in funding to promote and enhance maritime training on the Merseyside, UK.

The money will go towards investment in a range of port operations, international trade and logistics simulators, developed by AIMS Solutions (Liverpool) and ITS Training Limited, in partnership with Mersey Maritime.

Plans are for a web-based simulator and three physical simulators,which will replicate five different pieces of port equipment, including cranes, fork-lift trucks and land-based tugs. Mersey Maritime claims that the ‘Mersey Maritime Institute’ project will provide training for over 500 people and create 11 jobs by December 2008.
