Smart cards and biometric hand readers designed by Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies are designed to be a deterrent to container theft, while improving access controls.
The technology combines HandPunch 300 hand geometry access readers with an Interflex 6020 Access System. Currently, 10,000 road hauliers are registered on the system.
The bio-drive coincides with the start of operations for the port’s new empty container handling fleet, made up of 12 empty container handlers, four toplift machines and one reachstacker, all manufactured by Kalmar.
