Tauranga congestion easing

Ports of Auckland’s return to full operating capacity following the cessation of industrial action has seen a gradual easing of congestion at the Port of Tauranga.

Although the Tauranga Container Terminal (TCT) and MetroPort Auckland operations have continued at over 100% capacity during the past fortnight, it was expected stability would return by the end of this week.

The port recently stopped accepting Auckland-bypassers, with MetroPort utilisation peaking at 220% and the TCT handling a record 20,200 teu in a week compared with the expected 11,000-13,000 teu.
