Tauranga port criticises process

Port of Tauranga is frustrated at both the NZ$2.5m (US$2.1m) expenditure – excluding staff time – and four-year process it has undertaken to seek resource consent to widen and deepen its harbour channel.

While accepting a due and fair process is required, port management say the current system is “much too long and too costly” for all concerned.

Currently dealing with an appeal to consents granted, the port company has welcomed the Government’s commitment to reforming the Resource Management Act.
