CSIRO has created innovative simulation and optimisation models which can maximise system throughput and provide time and cost effective solutions to deal with growing demand and expansion at port terminals.
As a result of research into stockyard optimisation systems such as stockpile modelling, stockyard scheduling and optimal stockpile blending, smart tools have been produced in order to optimise notable aspects of the supply chain, which can not only minimise demurrage costs, but also deal with potential problems in the chain such as breakdowns and outages.
CSIRO software can analyse key areas such as the usage of machines like reclaimers, stackers and ship-loading facilities (keeping machine conflicts to a minimum and noting any issues with the use of the facilities); making effective use of stockyard room; and streamlining rail schedules to interact with the operational needs of the stockyard while keeping an eye on any limits of rail transport capacity.
