Melbourne licence fee hike

The Port of Melbourne will increase its controversial port licence fee in the next financial year because revenues gained from it in the first half of this year were 5% less than expected due to sluggish trade.

The fee was introduced so the port could pay a return to the Victorian government, and meant an increase in the tariffs on import and export containers of about 50%.

The port will advise price adjustments to next year’s licence fees at the end of March.
