ICTSI looks ahead after Hanjin loss

ICTSI Oregon, operator of the Port of Portland’s Terminal 6 container facility, has vowed to move past the departure of Hanjin as a customer on the back of ongoing labour issues.

In a statement, the operator said: “Retaining and attracting new carriers to Terminal 6 is ICTSI Oregon’s number one priority. We will be taking calculated steps, in conjunction with the Port of Portland, toward seeking new carriers that can capitalise on the opportunities to serve this market created by Hanjin’s departure.”

It continued: “This will be a difficult task, given that the situation at Terminal 6 goes much deeper and has been going on much longer than the current labour dispute at other West Coast ports.”

However, ICTSI remains “hopeful” that labour union ILWU will bring its work stoppages and slowdowns to a close and work with it to improve operations.
