Javier Díaz, the president of the National Commerce Association, believes that countries such as Mexico and Chile have already stolen a march on Colombia, whose logistics managers must therefore try to learn from developments in those countries. In Mexico, he pointed to the setting up of industrial estates, which have helped develop logistics links with the US.
As for Chile, he acknowledged that its cool chain and handling of perishables in general have helped promote its agricultural industry. Colombia, he stressed, needs to learn lessons if its own agribulk sector is to grow.
New statistics have identified key bottlenecks in Colombia that require attention, he added, and indicate where solutions are needed.
“We can no longer keep on talking; we must take action,” he said.
