{"id":1151,"date":"2020-09-28T14:10:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-28T13:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/coastlink\/2020\/09\/28\/iaph-launches-port-digitalisation-survey\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T15:14:24","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T14:14:24","slug":"iaph-launches-port-digitalisation-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/2020\/09\/28\/iaph-launches-port-digitalisation-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"IAPH launches port digitalisation survey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/r\/IAPHediQ\" target=\"_blank\">survey<\/a>, IAPH is seeking to gauge how far processes have been digitalised to track movements of ships, cargo and passengers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Covid-19 pandemic and the need for safe ship-shore interactions have pushed ports to digitalise,\u201d said Patrick Verhoeven, managing director, IAPH.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile some IMO member states and ports have achieved some gains, implementing electronic data exchange remains work in progress. This questionnaire aims to assess the status of that work in progress and the challenges being faced by all parties in the process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Harmonising data<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The survey follows the call to action communiqu\u00e9 initiated by IAPH back in June which includes assessing the state of implementation of the requirements defined in the International Maritime Organization\u2019s Facilitation (IMOFAL) Convention.<\/p>\n<p>These conventions are in place to support transmission, receipt and response of information needed for the ships\u2019 arrival, stay and departure, as well as the data on both cargo and passengers.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/r\/IAPHediQ\" target=\"_blank\">questionnaire on electronic interchange<\/a>, which is confidential and open to all ports, consists of eight questions which will provide key insights into where most efforts are needed to provide expertise, capacity building and in some cases technical infrastructure to streamline efficient data exchange between the port community and the ships calling at their ports.<\/p>\n<p>Feedback will be shared in the first instance with the ports who have responded.
