{"id":122,"date":"2018-05-09T14:16:00","date_gmt":"2018-05-09T13:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/coastlink\/2018\/05\/09\/indian-unions-workers-to-strike-indefinitely-at-12-indian-ports\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T15:09:19","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T14:09:19","slug":"indian-unions-workers-to-strike-indefinitely-at-12-indian-ports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/2018\/05\/09\/indian-unions-workers-to-strike-indefinitely-at-12-indian-ports\/","title":{"rendered":"Indian unions workers to strike indefinitely at 12 Indian ports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>T Narendra Rao told <em>The Hindu Business Line <\/em>that the national co-ordination committee of six federations of major port workers also decided to call for a nationwide, one-day protest strike on 28 May.<\/p>\n<p>The strike planned for 28 May is, according to Mr Rao, in relation to the \u201cthe casual attitude of the Ministry of Shipping and Indian Ports Association (IPA) in settling the demands of the port workers for revising the existing wage structure and other service conditions, including pensionary benefits, with effect from January 2017, consequent to the expiry of the existing wage settlement\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Neglected assurances<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The Hindu Business Line<\/em> reported that Mr Rao said IPA\u2019s management and the Indian government have \u201cneglected repeated assurances given to the workers\u2019 federations including amending the Major Port Authorities Bill and recognition of trade unions based on the recommendations of the parliamentary standing committee\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Rao reportedly added: \u201cThe IPA has also assured implementation of various statutory settlements, but so far none of the demands have been settled.
