{"id":1405,"date":"2021-04-27T11:20:00","date_gmt":"2021-04-27T10:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/coastlink\/2021\/04\/27\/hydrogen-reach-stacker-pilot\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T15:15:48","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T14:15:48","slug":"hydrogen-reach-stacker-pilot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/2021\/04\/27\/hydrogen-reach-stacker-pilot\/","title":{"rendered":"Hydrogen reach stacker pilot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The hydrogen reach stacker is in development at Hyster as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/h2ports.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\">H2PORTS<\/a> project for the Port of Valencia.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hoped that during its two-year pilot at MSC Terminal Valencia, the reach stacker will offer comparable performance to a diesel counterpart whilst producing zero emissions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fuel cells<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To refuel the reach stacker, the terminal will rely on the mobile Hydrogen Refuelling Station, developed by CNH2.<\/p>\n<p>The station will also be used to fuel the 4&#215;4 terminal tractor which is to be piloted at Valencia Terminal Europa, part of Grimaldi Group, which is also powered by fuel cells.<\/p>\n<p>Once fully developed, the Hyster reach stacker is expected to offer comparable performance to a diesel truck in terms of capacity and lift and driving speeds, helping to support similar productivity levels.<\/p>\n<p>When matched with the right application and operating intensity, Hyster expects that the reach stacker with a fuel cell will provide up to one day of operation before an H2 refill is required.<\/p>\n<p>The fuel cell converts H2 to electricity and acts as a range extender for the reach stacker, resulting in zero-emission equipment that, if combined with the use of green hydrogen, is also carbon neutral.<\/p>\n<p>Fundaci\u00f3n Valenciaport said that the technology shows some advantages compared to other available zero emission technologies like pure electric versions.<\/p>\n<p>The solution with hydrogen and fuel cell is more compact for the same requirements, a battery pack for the reach stacker would need to be almost as big as half the truck to work for an entire day.<\/p>\n<p>It also allows quicker refuelling, which can be done in as little as 10 to 15 minutes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A hydrogen reach stacker is under development that will be tested in real time at a Spanish port.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":1406,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[18],"tags":[],"sponsor":[],"class_list":["post-1405","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-alternative-fuels-greenport"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1405","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1405"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1405\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1407,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1405\/revisions\/1407"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/1406"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1405"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1405"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1405"},{"taxonomy":"sponsor","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/sponsor?post=1405"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
