{"id":1523,"date":"2021-06-30T13:11:00","date_gmt":"2021-06-30T12:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/coastlink\/2021\/06\/30\/hydrogen-cuts-emissions\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T15:16:29","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T14:16:29","slug":"hydrogen-cuts-emissions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/2021\/06\/30\/hydrogen-cuts-emissions\/","title":{"rendered":"Hydrogen cuts emissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A charging and hydrogen filling station will be built in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenport.com\/news101\/europe\/clean-energy-grows\" target=\"_blank\">Port of Gothenburg<\/a> as part of the Tranzero Initiative to help speed up the transition to fossil-free transport to and from the port. The Initiative is a collaborative venture between the Volvo Group, Scania, Stena Line, and the Gothenburg Port Authority.<\/p>\n<p>The port aims to reduce carbon emissions from transport by 70% through to 2030. On the land side, carbon emissions in the Gothenburg area will need to be cut by 23,000t if this goal is to be achieved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOverall, the transition is not moving quickly enough for us to meet our target,\u201d said Elvir Dzanic, Gothenburg Port Authority chief executive. \u201cDespite an abundance of ambitions and laudable strategies in the transport sector, what is required is greater cooperation if we are to put into effect the across-the-board approach that will be required to accelerate the transition. We embarked on the Tranzero Initiative to do just that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>2022 launch<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first open-access facility in the Nordic region for electric charging and hydrogen gas for heavy goods vehicles, will become operational in 2022. Fuel company Circle K will run the station, which will offer charging points, hydrogen gas pumps, and bio-based liquefied fuels.<\/p>\n<p>Charging points and hydrogen filling facilities will be developed in stages and will be available in 2022 and 2023\/24 respectively. The system will then be expanded with the addition of more locations and increased capacity to keep pace with demand.<\/p>\n<p>The station will be at V\u00e4dermotet at the Port of Gothenburg, which is strategically located beside the main roads leading into and out of the port.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trucks focus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The focus of the Tranzero Initiative will be on the one million truck movements at the port each year although the initiative also includes electrification of sea transport.<\/p>\n<p>Dzanic explained: \u201cWe have highlighted flows that are particularly suited to the transition process. These are mainly flows that are highly repetitive, involve short distances, and include overnight parking at a depot.
