{"id":166,"date":"2018-06-28T13:49:00","date_gmt":"2018-06-28T12:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/coastlink\/2018\/06\/28\/terberg-tells-of-ship-size-and-fuel-cost-challenge\/"},"modified":"2018-06-28T13:49:00","modified_gmt":"2018-06-28T12:49:00","slug":"terberg-tells-of-ship-size-and-fuel-cost-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/2018\/06\/28\/terberg-tells-of-ship-size-and-fuel-cost-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Terberg tells of ship size and fuel cost challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>That\u2019s according to Rob van Hove \u2014 managing director for Terberg Benschop, the Netherlands subsidiary of Terberg Special Vehicles \u2014 who spoke exclusively to <em>Port Strategy <\/em>at TOC Europe 2018, held in Rotterdam.<\/p>\n<p>Discussing the scale of terminal operations, Mr van Hove said: \u201cThe scale [of vessels] is increasing quite rapidly &#8230; and terminals have to deal with that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Watch the video here: Real Cost of Environmental Protection in Ports - Specialist Gives the Lowdown\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ooTjasOZrcM\" target=\"_blank\">Watch the video here: Real Cost of Environmental Protection in Ports &#8211; Specialist Gives the Lowdown<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Regarding automation, Mr van Hove noted: \u201cA lot of people are looking at cost-reduction of labour so they want to automate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the topic of alternative fuel lines, and fuel cost and emissions reduction, he said: \u201cOf course, everyone is interested in cost reduction and finding alternatives, like electric vehicles or cranes or maybe fuel cells as an alternative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m convinced that people are interested in cost reduction and the environment, but of course, economy is always important.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cost per container is going down so everyone has to look at this cost structure [and] reduce costs.
