{"id":1912,"date":"2023-08-29T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-29T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/coastlink\/2023\/08\/29\/hydrogen-engines-for-big-red\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T15:18:38","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T14:18:38","slug":"hydrogen-engines-for-big-red","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/2023\/08\/29\/hydrogen-engines-for-big-red\/","title":{"rendered":"Hydrogen Engines for Big Red"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The move is part of Taylor Machine Work\u2019s \u201cBeyond Clean Lifting\u201d initiative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBig Red\u201d \u2013 as Taylor Machine Works is also known \u2013 has signed a letter of intent with Cummins to utilise the 6.7-litre and 15-litre hydrogen engines for its range of equipment activities across industrial steel, wood products, concrete, oil and gas, and port operations activities.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Machine Works has confirmed its intention to develop low and zero-carbon solutions across the company\u2019s entire product line, which includes battery electric trucks, hydrogen fuel cell trucks, and now Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines (H2ICE).<\/p>\n<p>H2ICE engines reduce carbon emissions without sacrificing productivity. \u201cBig Red\u201d states that adding H2ICE to the mix of zero carbon solutions also reduces the pressure on utility grids, while still delivering dependable solutions that match more traditional internal combustion equipment, but without increasing service and maintenance requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Antonio Leitao, Cummins Vice President Off-Highway Engine Business, highlights the aims of the joint venture: \u201cWe see hydrogen internal combustion engines as a solution to help drive sustainability improvements in our industry. Hydrogen power will help both original equipment manufacturers and end-users looking to making carbon emissions reductions on their paths to zero.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Established in 1927, Taylor has been manufacturing high-capacity forklifts, lift trucks and container handling equipment for the lumber, steel, concrete, intermodal and paper industries.
