{"id":2325,"date":"2007-07-01T16:26:00","date_gmt":"2007-07-01T15:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/coastlink\/2007\/07\/01\/inland-port-scheme-attracts-key-supporters\/"},"modified":"2007-07-01T16:26:00","modified_gmt":"2007-07-01T15:26:00","slug":"inland-port-scheme-attracts-key-supporters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/2007\/07\/01\/inland-port-scheme-attracts-key-supporters\/","title":{"rendered":"Inland port scheme attracts key supporters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Government agency, which itself has access to a limited funding pool, is understood to be championing the project\u2019s cause directly with the Government.<\/p>\n<p>Ports of Auckland\u2019s plan entails developing five hectares of adjacent Ontrack land to enable the currently 10-hectare and 35,000-teu-per-year facility to provide a nightly 20- or 25- wagon rake connection to the seaport.<\/p>\n<p>The port company had previously gained endorsement for the development from both the Auckland Regional Council and Auckland Regional Transport Authority \u2013 including an independent report from the latter indicating its high benefit-cost ratio.<\/p>\n<p>However,the port company says it needs Government funding in the short-term to ensure it can develop and operate the facility in a sustainable manner. Ports of Auckland Jens Madsen says the project is \u201cpretty hard to walk away from.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur carbon footprint will be cut down, because we will be taking truck kilometres off roads,\u201d he says. \u201cThe benefits are very tangible indeed.
