This year the first season, despite the negative impact of a lot of rain, will generate around 1000 40ft in the first season and 2000 in the second. Mangoes are another important fruit exported.

Shrimp traffic is in equally strong growth mode, particularly to the USA, with the huge farms that produce this commodity able to generate up to 40 tons per day.

Tecon Suape has already made special provision for these two cargo sectors with the number of reefer plugs on the terminal raised last year from 370 to almost 600.

2003 additionally saw $5m invested in the expansion of the paved area of the container terminal – raising the area of occupancy of the terminal to 40% of the 300ha concession.

Part of the goal in expanding the terminal area was not just to cater for the rapidly growing temperature controlled trades but also cabotage trade, which has recently been growing at the rate of 20% per annum in Brazil.

Equally notable, Tecon Suape is situated in the heart of a fast growing industrial area and this too is increasingly playing a part in traffic growth. There is also significant potential for transhipment activity, due to the terminal’s strategic location on the northeastern tip of Brazil, and this too is expected to increase over time.

The new round of investment at Suape together with further improvements in working practices recently agreed with the relevant trade unions further confirms the terminal’s position as the most modern container terminal in Brazil according to ceo, Sergio Kano.

International Container Terminals Services Inc (ICTSI) is to invest $15m at its Tecon Suape container terminal located in north-eastern Brazil. The new investment, which will bring ICTSIs total investment to date at Tecon Suape up to a level of $55m and includes funds for two new post-Panamax cranes and new RTGs for the yard operation, is designed to meet the latest needs of its shipping clients and to progressively integrate Suape into the logistics chain for important cargo flows such as the fruit and shrimp trades in Suapes hinterland.

[23
["post-2524","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-north-america
["GET
