{"id":3467,"date":"2011-12-26T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-12-26T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/coastlink\/2011\/12\/26\/in-from-the-beginning\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T15:32:02","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T14:32:02","slug":"in-from-the-beginning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/2011\/12\/26\/in-from-the-beginning\/","title":{"rendered":"In from the beginning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For this reason the initial feasibility studies tend to only consider the proposed site location relative to the perceived supply or market for that commodity, and the potential impact on neighbours as evaluated as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately\u201d, says consultant Stephen Gyi, \u201cthis tends to only focus on the proposed land site, with project\u2019s contractors believing their responsibility ends at the berth even without a vessel alongside, and excludes any assessment of the marine aspects of the project &#8211; despite the fact the intention is to build a \u2018marine terminal\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He goes on to say that very often projects don\u2019t get involved in Marine Risk Assessments, believing the port authority\u2019s own risk assessment has been updated and adequately covers the expected changes within its jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoreover, most are reluctant to provide access to their latest Marine Risk Assessment, stating this would have an adverse impact should it get out into the public domain,\u201d he says.
