{"id":4189,"date":"2015-08-05T15:46:00","date_gmt":"2015-08-05T14:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/coastlink\/2015\/08\/05\/melbourne-dispute-canned-by-rent-agreement\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T15:38:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T14:38:16","slug":"melbourne-dispute-canned-by-rent-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/2015\/08\/05\/melbourne-dispute-canned-by-rent-agreement\/","title":{"rendered":"Melbourne dispute canned by rent agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new lease will grant 50-year tenure to DP World Australia to 2065 under a lease with \u201ckey performance indicators, efficiency incentives, and most importantly, known fixed escalations for the next 13 years\u201d \u2013 making it a mutually beneficial outcome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone wins \u2014 our customers, service providers and the Victorian freight industry will benefit from long-term lease and price certainty, which comes with DP World Australia&#8217;s commitment to operating in the Port of Melbourne,\u201d said Nick Easy, CEO, PoMC. <\/p>\n<p>This comes after the port <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/news101\/world\/australasia\/way-forward-for-dpw-melbourne-impasse#sthash.4src33E8.dpuf\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> a 750% rental increase for DP World\u2019s Melbourne terminal, with rental costs expected to rise from AUS$15 per sq metre to AUS$120 per sq metre.  <\/p>\n<p>DP World Australia Managing Director and CEO, Paul Scurrah, said the new lease arrangements will provide long term certainty to port users, including modern lease terms and acceptable rent levels to both parties. <\/p>\n<p>The agreed rent includes incremental rent increases over the course of the 50-year tenure starting with CPI increments in 2015 and 2016 to nominally AUS$45 in 2023 with agreed escalations to 2028.
