{"id":4292,"date":"2015-08-25T12:46:00","date_gmt":"2015-08-25T11:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/coastlink\/2015\/08\/25\/concerns-raised-over-new-cruise-port\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T15:38:49","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T14:38:49","slug":"concerns-raised-over-new-cruise-port","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/2015\/08\/25\/concerns-raised-over-new-cruise-port\/","title":{"rendered":"Concerns raised over new cruise port"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The East Greenwich Residents\u2019 Association (EGRA), Greenwich Society, Greenwich Green Party and three London Assembly Members party leaders are all appealing to the London Mayor, Boris Johnson, to call in the London City Cruise Port (LCCP).<\/p>\n<p>The groups are concerned that individual ship\u2019s diesel generators will add to the already high levels of pollution in the area and will produce similar levels of toxic pollutants, including as much nitrogen dioxide as 400 idling HGVs.<\/p>\n<p>They are asking for shore side power to be provided at the terminal so that there are no adverse effects on residents\u2019 health.<\/p>\n<p>But the developers, Enderby Riverside Limited, appear to have already ruled this out.<\/p>\n<p>It told <em>GreenPort<\/em> in a statement: &#8220;Detailed environmental studies were produced by global expert AECOM, by specialists at the GLA and leading consultants Royal Haskoning on behalf of the Royal Borough of Greenwich. These studies and the detailed planning officer\u2019s report all concluded that this single ship berth in intermediate seasonal use would have no material impact on existing air quality levels in the local area and that a shore supply was not required.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The LCCP scheme at Enderby Wharf in East Greenwich also includes 477 homes. It won planning permission back in July despite 117 letters expressing opposition.<\/p>\n<p>Enderby Riverside Limited said that it takes its commitment to sustainability seriously. The LCCP development includes Photovoltaic Solar Panels (PV panels) which will be located on the brow of the terminal.<\/p>\n<p>Rain water harvesting will also be provided to offset water requirement and landscape water run-off.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is concern over a new London cruise terminal given the go ahead by Greenwich council because of the pollution it may create.
