The initial test of \u2018plugging in\u2019 a vessel is critical to assessing the performance of the new, high voltage system. The port says it\u2019s also vital to ensuring all training units including ILWU and ship operators become comfortable with operating the gear.<\/p>\n<p>Its project \u201crepresents a giant leap forward for the port and the community. Over the lifetime of this project (30 years), annual emissions from refrigerated cargo vessels also known as \u201creefer vessels\u201d will be significantly reduced,\u201d said Kristin Decas, CEO and director.<\/p>\n<p>Anticipated reductions include a 92% reduction in PM, 98% reduction in NOx, and a 55% reduction in greenhouse gasses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreen is no clich\u00e9 for the Port of Hueneme.
