TheDOCK aims to accelerate startups by helping facilitate and support initiatives to deliver practical technology to port and maritime operations.<\/p>\n
The hub, founded by Israel-based Hannan Carmeli and Nir Gartzman, said on its website it is \u201ccommitted to deliver value by leveraging assets such as local talent and maritime heritage to spark innovation activity of the type which secured Israel\u2019s technology leadership in verticals such as Automotive, Fintech and others.\u201d<\/p>\n
Aspiring startups can use TheDOCK as a meeting place to share ideas with ports, shipping companies and shipyards and discuss the feasibility of business plans, access market expertise and get help with testing of ideas.<\/p>\n
Mr Carmeli recently served as an operating consultant with private equity firm Francisco Partners, where he was involved in the acquisition and value creation of Israeli portfolio companies. He has also worked as director of international activity for the Israeli Innovation Authority and president and co-CEO of ClickSoftware.<\/p>\n
With eight years of management positions in both navy and civilian sectors, Mr Gartzman has served as chief engineer of a navy vessel, superintendent of cargo ships, infrastructure projects manager for hardware, software and facilities integration and key account manager for a multinational medical device vendor.<\/p>\n
Advisors to TheDOCK include retired rear admirals of the Israeli Navy, Omri Dagul and Shaul Chorev, who is also a professor at the University of Haifa\u2019s school of political science.<\/p>\n
Also on the hub\u2019s panel is Arie Gavish, who has been the Haifa Port manager for the last 10 years.<\/p>\n
Yigal Jacoby is additionally on hand as a veteran investor and mentor to many startups. He co-founded Allot Communications in 1996 and served as its CEO until 2006.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
