Channel 5, which is being pioneered with the aim of giving an accurate, real-time overview of port system status, will notify users about how well gate operations and planned import and export goods flows at port terminals are running.<\/p>\n
The new initiative, part of the Aix-Marseille-Provence agglomeration\u2019s Smart Port initiative, will use artificial intelligence technology developed in collaboration with the List, CEA Tech\u2019s smart digital systems institute, to detect problems and immediately propose alternatives to users in order to reduce port congestion.<\/p>\n
Its goal is to merge data from MGI\u2019s Cargo Community System (CCS) with data from sources likely to impact transit flows, such as weather forecasts, road traffic updates, handling equipment problems, terminal strikes and volumes of goods traffic expected.<\/p>\n
The information will then be compared with activity-based rules to determine the status of operations and identify which players could be affected by any problems arising, with the solution immediately proposing alternatives to any problems.<\/p>\n
The project is currently in the Proof of Concept phase, with MGI analysing the behaviour of the system with its terminal partner Seayard and engineers at CEA Tech.<\/p>\n
Finalisation of the project is scheduled for 2018, with implementation with a CCS in the Marseille-Fos Port planned for the second quarter of 2018.<\/p>\n
The system will also be compatible with all ports without a CCS.<\/p>\n
