{"id":5459,"date":"2017-10-23T10:47:00","date_gmt":"2017-10-23T09:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/coastlink\/2017\/10\/23\/ictsi-opts-for-hybrid-to-improve-efficiency\/"},"modified":"2017-10-23T10:47:00","modified_gmt":"2017-10-23T09:47:00","slug":"ictsi-opts-for-hybrid-to-improve-efficiency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/2017\/10\/23\/ictsi-opts-for-hybrid-to-improve-efficiency\/","title":{"rendered":"ICTSI opts for hybrid to improve efficiency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 16 hybrid rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes will be deployed at the Manila International Container Terminal as part of the operator\u2019s US$80 million capital equipment programme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe new RTGs will improve terminal efficiency and allow us to match demand in terms of operational performance,\u201d said Christian R Gonzalez, ICTSI senior vice president and head of Asia-Pacific and MICT.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust as important is that we can expect a minimum 40% reduction in carbon emissions and up to 60% better fuel economy. A side benefit is that the smaller engines mean reduced noise levels at the yard.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The MES hybrid uses diesel fuel saving technology that combines 200kVA Li-ion batteries and a smaller diesel engine, resulting in lower carbon emissions and better fuel efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Manufactured by Japanese shipbuilder and equipment maker Mitsui Engineering &amp; Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. (MES), the Mitsui Li-ion Hybrid RTG can stack one over five containers high and six containers wide, including truck roadway.<\/p>\n<p>The first batch of RTGs is scheduled for delivery in November next year, with the remaining eight to be turned over by October 2019.<\/p>\n<p>ICTSI is also set to commission five additional quay cranes by 2019, which includes a pair of neo-Panamax cranes.
