{"id":860,"date":"2020-01-09T13:09:00","date_gmt":"2020-01-09T13:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/coastlink\/2020\/01\/09\/tackling-road-emissions-with-rail\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T15:13:05","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T14:13:05","slug":"tackling-road-emissions-with-rail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/coastlink\/2020\/01\/09\/tackling-road-emissions-with-rail\/","title":{"rendered":"Tackling road emissions with rail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new connection at Hutchison Ports\u2019 Port of Felixstowe is the 36<sup>th<\/sup> daily rail service from the port and runs to Maritime Transport\u2019s newly opened East Midlands Gateway.<\/p>\n<p>Clemence Cheng, CEO at the Port of Felixstowe and executive director of Hutchison Ports, said: \u201cRail is an increasingly important element of the transport mix and through three dedicated rail terminals at the port we offer more rail services to more inland destinations with greater frequency than any other UK port.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He stated: \u201cThe Port of Felixstowe has enjoyed a long and successful relationship with Maritime Transport; initially as a road transport operator and more recently as a fully-fledged multi-modal logistics provider.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new service caters for ever-growing demand for rail at Felixstowe and follows hot on the heels of two new rail services to iPort Rossington and Hams Hall introduced from the port in the latter part of 2019.<\/p>\n<p>East Midlands Gateway, situated at Castle Donington in Leicestershire, is Maritime Transport\u2019s first strategic rail freight interchange. Located alongside the M1 motorway the 17-acre site is ideally placed to serve as a regional distribution hub.
