{"id":174,"date":"2018-04-12T16:26:00","date_gmt":"2018-04-12T15:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport-congress\/2018\/04\/12\/wilmington-gulftainer-deal-to-undergo-federal-review\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:21:06","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:21:06","slug":"wilmington-gulftainer-deal-to-undergo-federal-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport-congress\/news\/north-america\/wilmington-gulftainer-deal-to-undergo-federal-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Wilmington Gulftainer deal to undergo federal review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This follows <em>American Shipper\u2019s<\/em> report that US Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter, chairman of the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, asked President Donald Trump in a letter to \u201cplace a hold on\u201d the plan \u201cuntil the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) can fully investigate the national security implications of this deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Port of Wilmington Delaware told Port Strategy: \u201cThe agreement will require approval by the Delaware General Assembly and will undergo federal review, including an examination by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Approved 6 April<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gulftainer Group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/news101\/world\/americas\/preliminary-wilmington-agreement-for-gulftainer\" target=\"_blank\">reached a preliminary agreement<\/a> with the State of Delaware to lease the port from the Diamond State Port Corporation (DSPC) for 50 years earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>DSPC\u2019s board of directors and members of the Delaware General Assembly approved the lease on 6 April.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the lease agreement, Gulftainer\u2019s subsidiary GT USA is expected to invest more than US$580m in the port over the next nine years, including approximately US$410m for a new container facility at DuPont\u2019s former Edgemoor site, which was acquired by DSPC in 2016.
