{"id":1995,"date":"2013-08-01T16:34:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-01T15:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport-congress\/2013\/08\/01\/weak-trade-prospects\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:35:00","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:35:00","slug":"weak-trade-prospects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport-congress\/news\/europe\/weak-trade-prospects\/","title":{"rendered":"Weak trade prospects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ben Hackett of Hackett Associates says that he doesn\u2019t share the optimistic views being floated about in the market because the Northern European market remains on a downward slope with little prospect for growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe recession continues and it looks like the peak season will not come\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He points out that the slowdown in China\u2019s growth rate is impacting the export scene as much as the recession, which has negated any hope of a peak season.<\/p>\n<p>The latest forecast for international trade in Europe for 2013 projects a 3.9% increase in total imports to Europe but North Europe is projected to fall by 8.9% to 12.2m teu. The export forecast projects a 4.1% increase for Europe as a whole, with a total of 17.66 teu, with North Europe decreasing by 2.3% to 10.59m teu.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few short term hopeful signs though.
