{"id":2291,"date":"2016-03-09T10:11:00","date_gmt":"2016-03-09T10:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport-congress\/2016\/03\/09\/submit-your-project-for-the-espo-award-2016\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:36:59","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:36:59","slug":"submit-your-project-for-the-espo-award-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport-congress\/news\/europe-greenport\/submit-your-project-for-the-espo-award-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Submit your project for the ESPO award 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The theme this year is \u2018Nature in Ports\u2019 recognising that European ports are part of valuable ecosystems with some bordering or even comprising Natura 2000 areas, a network of breeding and resting sites for rare and threatened species.<\/p>\n<p>The ESPO award 2016 will go to the port authority that succeeds the best in safeguarding and further upgrading the nature and ecosystem, on land or waterside, in the port area. Ports that focus on opening up these areas for people living in the area to enjoy will also be rewarded.<\/p>\n<p>The award was established in 2009 to promote innovative projects of port authorities that improve societal integration of ports, especially with the city or wider community. In particular ESPO aims to stimulate the sustainable development of European ports and their cities.<\/p>\n<p>Previous winners of the award, to be given during an Award Ceremony and Port Night on 9 November in Brussels, include the Port of Dublin (2015) and the Port of Antwerp (2013).<\/p>\n<p>Project submissions have to reach the ESPO secretariat by 1 July 2016.
