{"id":347,"date":"2019-03-21T16:34:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-21T16:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport-congress\/2019\/03\/21\/sudan-to-make-over-us2bn-from-terminal-deal\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:22:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:22:13","slug":"sudan-to-make-over-us2bn-from-terminal-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport-congress\/news\/africa\/sudan-to-make-over-us2bn-from-terminal-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"Sudan to make over US$2bn from terminal deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ali Ahmed Abdelrahim, head of a technical committee in charge of contracting the project, said the deal aims to more than triple capacity at Port Sudan\u2019s South Port Container Terminal, reported <em>Reuters<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-year contract will see ICTSI operate, manage and develop the port, the company said last month, with the handover expected to be completed by the end of March.<\/p>\n<p>Sudan has received \u20ac410m from ICTSI out of a \u20ac530m down payment, Mr Abdelrahim said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir said the deal was being reviewed to ensure it was fair following a protest strike by workers. The workers went on strike against the \u201cprivatisation\u201d of the port, managed by the government-controlled Sea Ports Corporation, who signed the concession deal with ICTSI subsidiary ICTSI Middle East DMCC on 3 January.<\/p>\n<p>ICTSI said in a statement sent to <em>Reuters<\/em> last month that local stakeholders\u2019 concerns were being addressed by Sudan Port Corporation and the Government of Sudan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/aboutus\/editorial-staff\/rebecca-jeffrey\" target=\"_blank\">By Rebecca Jeffrey<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Sudanese government will make \u20ac2.13bn ($2.44bn) over a 20-year period from a deal to transfer Port Sudan\u2019s container terminal to Filipino port operator International Container Terminal Services, Inc.
